I contribute essays to the programme books at both the San Francisco Symphony and Carnegie Hall.
I’ve also written essays to accompany performances of works commissioned by Claire Chase as part of her Density 2036 project. See below for recent work.
I wrote an essay exploring Terry Riley’s new (2024) work ‘The Holy Liftoff’, exploring its place in Riley’s 60-plus year career.
Prometheus: The Poem of Fire
I was asked by the San Francisco Symphony and Cartier to write a philosophical essay to accompany a 2024 performance of Scriabin’s Prometheus: The Poem of Fire, in which colours and bespoke fragrances (designed by a Cartier perfumier) accompany Jean-Yves Thibaudet’s solo turn with the San Francisco Symphony.
I’m always interested in new collaborations: not just with musicians, but with visual artists and dancers, too. Get in touch if you’d like to collaborate.
